Jenelle "Nelle Rose" Dunkley

Jenelle “Nelle Rose” Dunkley, born in Mount Vernon, NY, comes from a Jamaican family who migrated to the Bronx in the 1980s. At the tender age of five, and under the direction of her mother, she began her musical journey by singing alto in the church choir. At the age of 14, she explored her talents deeper by recording original materials and performing at various events in the Tri-State area. As the years went on she attended Rutgers University, where she performed around campus and eventually became the Music Director of the Liberated Gospel Choir. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Africana Studies and went on to intern at several prestigious music companies, including Verity Records under Sony Music Entertainment.

My Story

Influenced by the likes of Whitney Houston, Lauryn Hill, India Arie, Jill Scott, Kierra Sheard, and Brandy, Nelle relocated to Los Angeles to further pursue her dreams. Exemplifying simplicity in her vocal talents, she integrates mystique and raw emotions into her music and stage performances. In her career thus far, she has generously learned about sacrifice and creating her own path. She has adopted a “now or never” mindset: living to fulfill her purpose of touching the world with the gift of song.

Since her transition to the West Coast, Nelle has obtained jingle and movie placements, worked with multiple well known artists, and taken her solo career to the next level. She has also been a full time member of Kanye West’s Sunday Service Collective since 2019. She is now looking to combine careers: teaching and music. By becoming one of the newest additions to the YKP Music Development Course, she plans to help music lovers grow to heights that they would never imagine.
